Google Maps API using Flash Builder Burrito

This is just a step by step documentation when I started using Google Map APIs for Flex.

As I was also exploring Burrito, I decided to check it out together-

Create a Flex Mobile Project.

Step 1:

Select File>New>Flex Mobile Project in the Flash Builder menu.

Step 2:

On the Project Location tab, specify MobMaps as the project name and click Next.

Step 3:

On the Mobile Settings tab, keep the default values and click Finish.

Step 4:

Here is how your project would look like and the application file without any code           added.

The first things to do are to sign up for a Google Maps API Key, and download the Google Maps Flex Library SWC (use the one with “Flex” in the filename).

Add the library to the Lib folder of the project.

Step 5:

You will find you can now access the google maps class.

Step 6:

Code in the application file looks like this.

Step 7:

Your done with the basic functionality of getting the maps in your project. Now when you run the application it asks for configuration. Select the device you want to use as a simulator. I am using Google Nexus One.

That is it! Your application looks something like this…

Now, the map points to Pune because I used it as the center.

Remember? = new LatLng(18.53,73.86);

These are co-ordinates for Pune. You can find your co-ordinates and use it here.
